OTOL 709H Ambulatory / Surgical Otolaryngology 4-week: PeaceHealth Medical Group and Sacred Heart Medical Cent Credits: 4 This elective offers an ambulatory and surgical/inpatient care experience.
The goals of the rotation are:
- Develop an understanding of otolaryngologic anatomy and its relation to encountered pathology.
- Learn how to conduct a comprehensive head and neck examination; understand basic work up and treatment of common otolaryngologic diseases, emergencies, and gain exposure to the spectrum of otolaryngologic practice.
- Understand basic indications and interpretation of diagnostic and radiological tests.
- Begin to develop knowledge of common surgical procedures and interventions including familiarity of relevant surgical instruments and techniques.
Special Notes Student will have the opportunity to work in:
- Ambulatory Setting: participate in a variety of non-surgical, pre and post operative patient care.
- Inpatient Setting: participate in surgical procedures in the main OR, Ambulatory Surgery Center and post-operative aftercare of patients. Students will participate in in-house call as recommended by physician faculty.
Graded: Pass/No pass May be taken only once for credit
