PEDI 710N Diagnosis & Management of Child Abuse Credits: 2 Educational goals in the Diagnosis & Management of Child Abuse elective will be achieved through a variety of educational experiences:
- Participation in abuse and neglect consults at DCH and Legacy Randall Children’s Hospital.
- Participation in meetings with Child Protective Services (CPS) and police investigators regarding ongoing abuse evaluations.
- Attendance at peer review conferences, include state and national teleconferences, and county multidisciplinary team meetings.
- Participation in outpatient physical and sexual abuse evaluations at CARES Northwest (CNW), including observation of forensic interviews of children.
- Shadowing a CPS worker for a day.
- Attendance at court proceedings in which a medical provider is testifying.
- Review of journal articles and video presentations on common child abuse topics to ensure a foundation of knowledge independent of the types of consults seen during the month.
- Completion of a series of child abuse case scenarios with an attending physician at the end of the rotation.
- Brief presentation on a topic of interest in child abuse.
Graded: Pass/No pass May be taken only once for credit
