PSYC 741PP Continuity Pediatrics/Psychiatry Integrative Care Credits: 8 The goal of this continuity elective is to improve the understanding of assessing and delivering care to pediatric patients who have both psychiatric and medical comorbidities. The student will learn how to communicate with pediatric patients and their families. They will practice the art of discussing diagnoses and treatment plans to both medical and psychiatric care teams. This elective will aim to improve the learner’s understanding of the care and treatment of complex pediatric patients with the goal of improving patient outcomes and preventing future health crises in these patients. The student will respond to Pediatric Psychiatry consults on the inpatient pediatric service and pediatric subspecialty services. The student will also participate in outpatient Pediatric Psychiatry consult service and perform consults in that setting. The student will be expected to attend any offered didactic presentations (both formal and informal), grand rounds and should expect an additional 8 hours of self-directed learning and reading each week. Students will be required to select a clinical case, review literatures, and present findings to the care team both verbally and in written format.
Graded: Pass/No pass May be taken only once for credit
