SURG 709K Rural Gen Surg - Grants Pass Credits: 6 Students will have exposure to a rural general surgery practice and identify the important issues involved in being a rural surgeon (that differ from practicing in a tertiary referral center). They will develop a higher level of comfort evaluating, diagnosing, and treating surgical patients and will learn to identify critical points in inpatient and outpatient care of surgical patients. They will have exposure to the broad spectrum of rural general surgical procedures and will also have hands on experience with minor office procedures. Students will be assigned a preceptor surgeon who will supervise their experience. The majority of the time will be spent in general surgery, but students will have the opportunity to rotate through other surgical specialties.
Graded: Pass/No pass May be taken only once for credit
