NRS 446 Parallels in Perspective: Cross-Border Health in Thailand and the United States Credits: 3 Students from nursing will explore parallels in perspectives on cross-border health between Thailand and the United States including political context, economics, environmental concerns, communication, gender roles, and social determinants of health. This course is designed in three interconnected parts: Pre-departure course, 2 weeks immersion in Thailand where interdisciplinary cross-border health researchers will provide didactic learning paired with fieldwork experiences, and re-entry reflection and application to practice. Students will be led by an experienced faculty who has lived and worked outside of the United States in limited resource settings. Furthermore, as the students will be coming from a US perspective on the continent of Asia in general, and Thailand in particular, we will explore how one’s own worldviews, values, and beliefs, create our understanding of the world and the interactions among diverse peoples of the world.
Graded: Pass/No pass May be taken only once for credit
