PMH 761 PMHNP Clinical Practice Foundations Credits: 2 This purpose of this course is to build a foundation for practice as a psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner. The role of the PMHNP is discussed with attention to development of the role, ethics and legal considerations. Health promotion is emphasized as a critical aspect of care delivery in mental health practice. Students will analyze the social and contextual factors that have influenced mental health systems of care, psychiatric-mental health nursing and inform current practice.
Anticipated topics include: Diagnostic Reasoning, Cultural Diversity/Relativism/Humility in Psychiatry, BPS Model, Screening, Psychopharmoclogy Basics, Outcomes Driven Care, Legal Foundations, and Risk Assessment.
