This purpose of this course is to utilize knowledge of psychopathology, neuroscience, and diagnostic classification to evaluate mental health problems and psychiatric disorders in adults for clinical decision making. Students focus on assessment structure, data gathering, and documentation, as well as diagnostic reasoning and formulation with attention to social and cultural perspectives. Students learn to critically appraise and apply appropriate standardized measurement tools as part of the assessment process. Communication, education, and collaboration are emphasized.
