PER 540-4 Classic Literature VIII Credits: 3 The goal of this course is to provide the second-year resident with an in-depth review of the literature necessary to engage in clinical practice as a periodontist. The course is conducted in a seminar format reviewing assigned articles in abstract form followed by a discussion of questions related to the articles abstracted. Additionally, critical analysis of the research involved in the articles will be conducted. The second-year resident is expected to facilitate achieving the goal of this course through enhancing the group dynamics of all nine residents. The second-year residents function as Seminar Leaders. This course provides the background knowledge required to successfully complete the residency and apply the in-depth knowledge gained to practice clinical periodontics at a proficient level. This knowledge additionally serves to ensure a greater success rate of residents becoming Diplomates of the American Board of Periodontology.
