PER 554 Anesthesiology Hospital Rotation

An anesthesiology hospital rotation to provide students enrolled in the Advanced Education Program in Periodontics with increased experiential training in anesthesia and sedation. Special emphasis is given to pre- and post-operative assessment, venipuncture, airway management, and prevention and management of anesthetic emergencies. Activities performed by the residents at this site include:

preoperative evaluation;
assessment of the effects of behavioral and pharmacologic anesthetic techniques;
venipuncture technique;
patient monitoring in the perioperative period;
airway management;
understand administration of sedative and analgesic agents;
prevention and treatment of anesthetic emergencies;
assessment of patient recovery from anesthesia.
