PER 554 Anesthesiology Hospital Rotation Credits: 1 An anesthesiology hospital rotation to provide students enrolled in the Advanced Education Program in Periodontics with increased experiential training in anesthesia and sedation. Special emphasis is given to pre- and post-operative assessment, venipuncture, airway management, and prevention and management of anesthetic emergencies. Activities performed by the residents at this site include:
- preoperative evaluation;
- assessment of the effects of behavioral and pharmacologic anesthetic techniques;
- venipuncture technique;
- patient monitoring in the perioperative period;
- airway management;
- understand administration of sedative and analgesic agents;
- prevention and treatment of anesthetic emergencies;
- assessment of patient recovery from anesthesia.
Graded: Pass/No pass May be taken only once for credit
