PER 710 Intro to Principles of Periodontology Credits: 1 Introduction to Principles of Periodontology is the first course in the theory and application of periodontology and is designed for the first-year dental student. Students are presented with an introduction to the anatomy and histology of the healthy periodontium as well as an overview of the clinical discipline of periodontics and its impact on oral health. The focus of laboratory simulation and clinical exercises is the development of basic skills in patient observation, data collection, instrument design and utilization. The didactic, clinical and simulation exercises form a critical foundation for future courses in Periodontology. During this course, with supervision, students will perform periodontal data collection through performing a head and neck examination and a comprehensive periodontal examination. Upon completion of the course, students will have attained the knowledge and skills necessary to progress to the treatment of periodontal diseases.
Graded: Pass/No pass May be taken only once for credit
