BME 620 Science Writing for Journals Credits: 2 In this course, we will break down the components of scientific writing to include the following topics:
- Starting strategies- Deciding on a journal and the review process;
- Abstract construction;
- Introduction- Communicating significance and rationale;
- Methods- Data recording and transparency;
- Figure making- Tools and guidelines;
- Communication of results;
- Discussion- Summaries, limitations, and the bigger picture;
- Submission and Response to reviewers;
- Review articles, letters, short communications and conference abstracts;
- Navigating collaborations and mentorship.
Students will be assessed for a letter grade based on the quality of their written assignments (50%), their engagement during course meetings (25%), and final oral presentation to the class (25%).
Graded: A-F May be taken only once for credit
