BMI 610 Introduction to Biomedical Informatics and Artificial Intelligence

An introduction to the fundamental principles of biomedical informatics, the field concerned with the acquisition, storage, and use of data and information in biomedicine and health; and of artificial intelligence, a major application area of biomedical informatics. The course begins with a basic overview of biomedical informatics and artificial intelligence, describing terminology and resources. It then surveys electronic and personal health records, standards and interoperability, and aspects of artificial intelligence, including machine learning, large language models, and their applications in biomedicine and health. The course also covers privacy and security, information retrieval, translational bioinformatics, public health informatics, nursing informatics, and consumer health informatics.
