PAST 544 Medicine II Credits: 4 This course deals with basic and clinical science of human nutrition, the gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary and endocrine systems, and introduces, discusses, analyzes and evaluates the diagnosis and treatment of various disease processes commonly seen in primary and specialty care. Each week the course focuses on key physiologic and pathophysiologic mechanisms of disease followed by an exploration of the patient assessment and management of associated disease states. The diagnostic and laboratory methods used in the care of patients are discussed, and relevant pharmacotherapeutic interventions are examined. At the end of this course students will have a broad understanding of nutritional, gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary and endocrine disorders common to medical practice.
