PAST 572 Intro to Pharmacotherapeutics Credits: 2 Students are introduced to the clinical use of pharmacotherapeutic agents through this foundational course that includes basic pharmacologic information about drug absorption, distribution, metabolism and elimination (ADME). The concepts of drug mechanism of action, adverse effects and toxicities are discussed, and students will learn prescription-writing processes and legalities as well as the use of therapeutic informatics. An overview of some of the major classes of drugs will be introduced, and at the conclusion of this introductory course students will have a basic preparation from which to assimilate appropriate drug management to be presented throughout the medicine course series that begin in fall term.
Graded: Pass/No pass May be taken only once for credit
