ANST 709SC Anesthesiology - St. Charles Bend


Credits: 4
Students receive supervised instruction and gain experience with the clinical aspects of anesthesiology by working in the operating room with an attending physician. This elective requires weekly written assignments and a final exam, submitted through Sakai. The course emphasizes:

  1. perioperative patient care with a focus on intraoperative anesthetic and non-operative pain management,
  2. using scientific principles and practices of anesthesiology to develop individual patient plans, and
  3. developing technical skills involved with airway management, tracheal intubation, and IV infusion therapy.

Students will be expected to attend weekly Grand Rounds, clinical conferences, and other continuing medical education activities as assigned by their attending. St. Charles Bend is located in Bend, OR, approximately 160 miles southeast of the main OHSU campus. St. Charles (Bend) is designated as a Level II Trauma Center by the Oregon Public Health Division. Bend is the only Level II Trauma Center east of the Cascades. St. Charles (Redmond) is a certified Level III Trauma Center. Pioneer Memorial Hospital (Prineville) is a Level IV Trauma Center.
